Special Safari Features

Safari

I have been running Mozilla browsers almost exclusively since before Firefox was release. After installing Leopard I decided to run Safari full-time. No good reason other than Firefox seemed to be having more memory and crash issues and I was ready for a change.

According to the Apple website, "Safari 3.1 is the first browser to support the new video and audio tags in HTML 5 and the first to support CSS Animations. Safari also supports CSS Web Fonts, giving designers limitless choices of fonts to create stunning new web sites". All that and they didn't bump the release to 4.0?

The next important step for Apple is adoption by developers and end-users. Are you a web developer who likes to develop for all the latest cool technologies? Always looking for a development challenge? If so, this version of Safari is just what you have been waiting for! In addition to the Flash, HTML, mobile, and iPhone versions of your sites you can also have a special Safari version! What could be more fun than ensuring your site looks and works the same in IE6-8, Firefox, Opera, and Safari! I know what you are going to be working on for the next year.

Adding these features to Safari is smart for one reason -- iPhone. Web developers need a more feature rich browser to provide application like experience for iPhone. Lists need to slide on and off the screen, missing fonts need to load magically. Next up -- offline sites with local SQL storage. The iPhone SDK will create a lot of opportunity for Mac developers, but the latest version of Safari ensures that web developers remain relevant in the future!
